Pupil Parliament 2024-25

Our Year 6 lead Pupil Parliament, taking on the role of Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and assistants. St. James' Pupil Parliament was launched in  September 2021 (previously School Council) with a clear focus on democracy. Children from Year 6 are invited to run for Prime Minister, delivering a speech to the whole school before spending a week canvassing for support.

The school general election takes place in the third week of September with a private ballot, all students from Years 1-6 vote for their representatives and Parliament is elected.   This is now in it's third successive year and our current Year 6 were fortunate enough to visit the real Parliament in London in June 2023.  This was a fantastic experience and enlightening for their roles ahead.

Pupil Parliament 2023 - 24

At St. James' Catholic Primary School, we are proud to have pupil representatives for our school's Pupil Parliament meetings. Parliament is in place so that pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about the school which affect them directly. Through these meetings, all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates in reaching a democratic solution. Pupils at St. James' know that this is their school, their thoughts and their ideas matter.  Their voice is heard and their ideas often acted upon.

Parliament meetings are held each Tuesday lunch time in Mrs Blacoe's office.  These meetings are proactive and involve ideas for fundraising and ensuring the child's voice steers the direction of the school. Members agree tasks to share with their classmates; keeping them informed and gathering ideas to feedback at follow up meetings.
